Donna H. Ryan, MD, is professor emerita at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana State University (LSU), in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Ryan earned her medical degree at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Charity Hospital, LSU Division, and a fellowship in medical oncology at the LSU School of Medicine. Dr. Ryan is board certified in geriatric medicine, internal medicine and medical oncology.
Dr. Ryan is a Fellow of The Obesity Society and a member of the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society and the Obesity Action Coalition, among other organizations. She is a past president of the World Obesity Federation. She is the author of more than 300 research articles published in journals including Diabetes Care, JAMA, The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, The New England Journal of Medicine and Obesity. Dr. Ryan received The Obesity Society’s George A. Bray Founders Award in 2013 and was named Obesity Action Coalition Healthcare Provider Advocate of the Year in 2017. She also received the George L. Blackburn Award for Excellence in Obesity Medicine in 2019.
